German Accelerator Tech is a growth acceleration program that supports German startups in entering the U.S. market and scaling globally. We have welcomed over 80 guests from the Silicon Valley startup community to the 6th edition of its Captivate event.
Captivate San Francisco
The Demo Day at German Accelerator San Francisco took place at the Parisoma coworking space on December 17, 2015. Captivate features German startups that have recently completed German Accelerator Tech’s three-month acceleration and immersion program.
After a short introduction by German Accelerator’s CEO Dirk Kanngiesser the audience was introduced to the event rules and the sequence of the participants’ pitches:
Hydrogenious Technologies develops systems for safe and efficient hydrogen storage in Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC).
4tiitoo creates a software platform to control everyday devices and applications in a consistent and natural way based on inputs like gaze, gestures and speech. Based on the overall context it predicts users’ intentions to enable devices to act automatically and intelligently.
onapply – Applicant Management Software that’s a joy to use.
Onelife – Mobile health companions that provide context-aware medical guidance.
The pitches were held in front of three panelists: Cathay Bi (YouTube), Amir Kabir (Presidio Partners) and Uli Heitzlhofer (Google). After each pitch the judge panel and the presenter engaged in a short Q&A followed by a closing statement from each judge.
Following the pitches, German Accelerator’s alumni Signavio announced their recent successful funding. William Thomas, Signavio’s VP of Sales, gave some more insights into the 31 million Euro round and emphasized the importance of the German Accelerator program for their successful U.S. market entry.
A vast majority of attendees participated in the voting where they had the opportunity to vote for the winner of the night’s “Best Pitch Award”. In the end Hydrogenious Technologies convinced the most people in the audience and was therefore allowed to choose one of three prestigious prizes: ticket to one conference of their choice, one full day of mentoring or a roundtrip flight from Germany to SFO.
After the winner announcement, the attendees were provided ample opportunities to expand their professional network through intense discussions while engaging first-hand with some of Germany’s best startups at their individual demo tables.
The next edition of Captivate will take place in New York City and San Francisco on March 31st.
