Captivate Silicon Valley
German Accelerator welcomed over 160 guests to the 7th edition of its Captivate event which took place in Palo Alto. The 7th edition was hosted in HanaHaus and was the biggest Captivate event yet – the event was completely sold out multiple hours prior to event start. Captivate features pitches of best-in-class German startups that have recently completed and graduated from German Accelerator’s three-month acceleration and immersion program
German Accelerator CEO Dirk Kanngiesser kicked the event off with a short introduction and was followed by Silicon Valley Head of Operation Friedrich Sulk, who was leading the audience through the evening.
After the audience was introduced to the event rules, the pitches of the seven startups, consisting of six Silicon Valley program participants as well as one guest pitch from a German Accelerator New York company, started:
PhraseApp is a translation management solution for web and mobile applications. It helps you to collaberate with your team, find professional translators and stay on top of processes.
Entrade has developed the world’s smallest clean evergy unit – the E3. It converts regional waste and biomass, aka carbon into clean energy, through a high-temperature conversion process.
Spryker is an e-commerce platform for customer-centric, agile market leaders.
MiNODES, our guest from New York, is the Big Data partner of offline retailers and enhances retailers’ performance by offering comprehensive consumer behavior analytics and retargeting solutions.
Quobyte is a software that helps customers simplify the design, deployment and management of storage infrastructure of all sizes by turning commodity surfers into reliable and highly automated data center files systems.
room.me – Empowering communities for shared living: The trusted source for shared living where the experience is as important as the space.
Silexica provides automated programming solutions that enable electronic device manufacturers to effectively deploy multicore processors
After each pitch the judge panel consisting of John Occhipinti (Relay Ventures), Jonathan Roosevelt (Roosevelt Capital) and Michael Linse (Linse Capital) provided immediate feedback for the startups’ products and their success potential in the U.S. market.
Following the pitches, German Accelerator’s alumni Movilizer announced that they were recently acquired by industry-leading Fortune 100 company Honeywell and explained the audience how German Accelerator helped him to make the necessary adjustments to his company’s strategy.
Highlight of the evening was the “Best Pitch Award”, for which the audience had the opportunity to vote for in real time. In the end Room.me convinced the most people in the audience and was therefore allowed to choose one of four prestigious prizes: ticket to one conference of their choice, one full day of mentoring, three months of office space or a roundtrip flight from Germany to SFO
Before and after the pitches, the attendees were provided opportunities to expand their professional network while engaging first-hand with some of Germany’s best startups at their individual demo tables.

The next edition of Captivate will take place on June 21 (New York City) and on June 23, 2016 (San Francisco).
